Why should you try Green bags?

One small way to REDUCE your carbon footprint is to EAT the produce you buy!

Methane is a greenhouse gas emitted by rotting fruits & vegetables.
By using Green Bags to extend the shelf life of your fruits & veggies, you also help the environment.

Eat the produce you spend your hard earned money on, don't throw it away to compost in the landfills.

Throw away less produce and start saving money today!

These bags will help keep Fruits and Vegetables fresh 3 to 10 times longer by absorbing etyhlene gases

The Savings increases because each bag is reusable up to 8 to 10 times
(or until they’re no longer effective)

They can also be used to preserve fresh flowers by placing a bag over the top of the Arrangement.

Fresh Cut Herbs will stay fresher, longer in a green bag.

These ingenious, Food Storage Produce Green Bags are made using a natural substance called Zeolite.
It naturally absorbs the enzyme producing gases that cause vegetables to deteriorate.

Now you can benefit from the properities of this natural substance and
prolong the ripening of fruits & veggies by using Green Bags!

Bet You Didn't Know that the active ingredient in Evert Fresh Green Bags is recommended by the
United States Department of Agriculture in its Handbook #668 to counteract the
negative effects of ethylene gas on fresh fruits and vegetables.

Here are a few Tips for using Green Bags:
If you buy fruit or veggies in boxes, containers or plastic bags, put the produce directly into Green Bags when you’re putting everything away. Store as you normally would in the refrigerator or on the counter.

Each bag is re-usable several times…turn it inside out, rinse it out, then allow the bag to dry before re-using. I have heard of them being washed up to 20 times before they lose the active natural mineral that makes them work. That saves you money too!!It is important to keep contents as dry as possible during storage. Fruits and Vegetables naturally contain moisture. If moisture builds up inside the bag during storage, just open the bag and wipe out any excess with a paper towel and reseal.

How to use them:
Green Bags should be dry before placing any fruits or veggies in them.If you wash the produce first,
before you put it in a Green Bag, be sure to dry everything thoroughly.

Use one bag for each type of produce … one bag for apples, one for lettuce, one for tomato, etc…

Cut flowers will also last longer by placing arrangements in a bag or pulling a bag over top of the vase.

To close, push out as much air as possible and fold over the top of the bag.

Store IN or OUT of the refrigerator.

If there is too much moisture building up in the bags, wipe it out with a paper towel.
A paper towel can also be placed inside the bag to absorb moisture during storage.
(I use white paper towel and stay away from the printed kind.)

** Do Not use twist-ties as they make holes. **

Caution: Keep away from babies and children to prevent suffocation

To re-use the green bags, rinse out and let dry.

Tips on storing Fruits & Vegetables:

Ever wonder why there's two crisper drawers in a refrigerator? Well come to find out, fruit gives of a higher concentration of ethylene and causes vegetables to ripen and rot faster if they are stored together.

Do you have a useful tip on storing produce? send email to sales@thegreenbagstore with a subject line of "storage tip" .

I personally use the green bags, however, I don't eat all of the kinds of produce you can find in the store these days. Here's a list of some of the Produce that can be stored in green bags:

Apples - give off the highest concentration of ethylene and should be stored separated from other produce.

Bananas - really do last longer in a green bag. Some say they eat them to fast to use a green bag. I have found that I can buy the reduced price, getting brown bananas and use a greenbag to get a few more days out of them. I also buy the almost ripe and eat them 2 weeks later.

Celery - stores nicely in a green bags, It still stays fresh along time wrapped in tinfoil too.

Grapes - last the longest if you put them in a bowl of water and keep them chilled in the frig. You won't believe the crispness after a few days.

Strawberries and all other kinds of berries are fast ripening. They don't seem to do well in green bags because of the moisture content. The best bet with berries is eat them when you get them or freeze and use later.

Mushrooms - Best storage is still in a brown paper bag,
Potatoes and Onions- They will loose flavor in the frig, use green bags & store in a cool dry place.

Get the most life out of all Green Leafy Produce like Lettuce, Spring greens, spinach, cabbage, scallions and there's more, by using green bags for storing.

Get the most flavor out of Tomatoes by storing them on the counter. A customer in the British West Indies kept her tomatoes for 4 weeks by using a green bag!!

The key to keeping any produce longer is keeping it dry.

Apricots, avocados, asparagus, broccoli, brussel sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, cherries, cucumbers,
eggplant, grapefruit, green peppers, kiwi, lemon, limes, mangoes, melons, oranges, parsnips, peaches, pears, peas, plums, radishes, sweet corn, turnip, zucchini, parsley...
